Since John Gagnon's posting on the blog now, I'm somewhat rethinking my comic relief role...I'll let you know what happens there.
In the meantime, I have some questions that weren't answered in the three posts about Namaste so far:
Number A: Can Ben not meet himself in the past? Is that why he didn't time jump?
Number B: Why didn't Sun time jump? Because someone from the Oceanic Six needed to fix the island and not time jump? Is this really the first time Sun learns about Christian?
Another one: Why did the Others build the runway? So when planes are about to crash on the island, they'll land semi-safely (sorry redshirt copilot) and they'll have more people to choose from? Or to land their own planes for supplies and transport? I thought the only way off the island was the sub - although, Ben could have been lying. He probably was.
Juliet almost gets Kate hosed - does anyone else think that's a great moment? Is it all part of Juliet's plan? Or just to show Kate who's in charge and how much power Juliet has?

No idea what happens if you meet yourself. Previous theories on this range from "it's awesome" to "the universe implodes." My guess if that the LOST writers will choose to avoid it entirely.
ReplyDeleteAnd about the runway... it certainly does seem like Ben had it built for the express purpose of giving flight 316 somewhere to land. But if that's the case, why start so late? And why not make it longer?
And despite my disdain for the teenage angst angle of the show... a comment on Juliet and Kate:
ReplyDeleteI don't think Juliet is playing mind games with Kate. She's been on the receiving end of creepy-obsessed-controlling attraction before, remember? Would she really act like Ben?
My comment is is relation to, "I thought the only way off the island was the sub."
ReplyDeleteWe do know that every once in a while, there have been planes that know where the island is and fly to it to drop supplies (the Dharma food drops), so they might have been building it for something like that in the future. Besides, a sub is kind of an out-dated way to travel, maybe ben wanted to buy a private jet to get on and off the island. I just have a hard time believing that they would go back in time and tell someone to build a runway, just so this one flight could land semi-safely. Unless something is uber important about the people on that flight, not just Locke, Ben and Sun.
Also, Michael leaves the Island on a small boat following a certain heading. The helicopter leaves the Island using the same method.
ReplyDeleteI'm leaning towards the "there's something uber important about the people on that flight" idea.
About the possibility of meeting your former self--while the left-behinds were jumping like crazy through time, they jumped to the night Claire had Aaron, and Sawyer saw them--not himself, of course, but others of the same time period, where he could have been. So I'm not sure that Ben shouldn't be able to go to a time where he already is... though the thought had definitely crossed my mind.
ReplyDeleteGood point, Jessie. It's established that you can exist in the same time as yourself (ugh time travel), but we just haven't seen an example of physically looking at yourself.
ReplyDeleteI still think they'll avoid that incident.
